J and I had our gender screening yesterday morning. Baby Reed continued his streak of being stubborn for the ultrasound technician. When she initially started the ultrasound, he had his legs crossed. I thought that was a good sign if it turned out to be a girl. At our last ultrasound when they screened for downs and whatnot, he wouldn’t position himself correctly so she could measure his neck. He definitely gets that from his father. Nothing about me is stubborn at all. I swear…

So after about 20 minutes of jostling my stomach around and having to turn on my side, he uncrossed those legs and it was very obviously a boy. His head is also leaning against my bladder which explains so much. Keeping mom on her toes already, thanks buddy.

J has ‘known’ it was a boy for awhile now and I was kinda leaning that way in the beginning, but as of recently I had absolutely no idea. We have a name picked out that I actually decided would be our first son’s name about two years ago when I was watching a movie with J in my Monument Ave apartment in Richmond…probably after dating him for all of 3 weeks. Luckily, he agreed with me. We’re keeping it on the DL until he joins us in August/September though! (Hint…it’s not ‘The Situation,’ although that has certainly become his new nickname now that ‘Snookie’ isn’t really gender appropriate…)

I’m so excited to shop for preppy little boy clothes, to finish decorating the nursery and to be able to identify with the little thing growing inside of me just a little more. And by that I mean it’s no longer an ‘it,’ it’s a ‘him.’

Am I slightly terrified about having a mini-Jason running around? You betcha. But I am getting more and more excited every day about this crazy journey J and I are embarking on!

Boys are beyond the range of anybody’s sure understanding, at least when they are between the ages of 18 months and 90 years.

For all you moms of boys out there, what’s the best part about having a son? What do I most have to look forward to? What should scare me the most?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  2. Melissa Anderson says:

Aww. Boys are so much fun, and they sure do love thier mamas! Just be prepared to be peed on. We have actually been pretty lucky. I’ve only been peed on once. However, the wall by his changing table has seen better days, as has is face :( That’s right folks, my son pees in his own face!

  3. Yay! Congrats! I love little boys– They are so fun and easy to play with. Girls hand you a doll and demand that you “play.” (WTH?) Boys hand you a truck and start making noises, and all you have to do is exactly what they do, and maybe throw in a fart noise, and they love you forever. :)

  6. Heather Gribble says:

So excited for you and Jason! We’ll have to get you some of those pee-pee tee pees for your little fella! Check them out!

  7. Jamie Swaine says:

Yay!! Aidan will have a new friend! So excited for you. Best part about a boy is less drama and “daddy and son” time so you can have your alone mommy time. :) Ha! I sound like a terrible mother, don’t I? :)

  8. thanks for all the support ladies! :)
